Can a building help stem the tide of large epidemics? In the midst of the world’s worst cholera outbreak in over a century, Haitian infectious disease specialist Dr. Jean-William Pape challenged MASS Design Group to design a cholera treatment center where the construction process, as well as the finished building, could address the underlying structural and social conditions that allow cholera to thrive.

In conversation with David Chen, UVA Coulter Program Director & Co-Director of the Medical Innovation and Human Centered Design Program and Rebecca Dillingham, MD/MPH, Director, Center for Global Health & Harrison Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor of Medicine.
